\nMiguel Ángel és un jove mexicà-americà de 17 anys que entrena cada dia després de classe en una nau d'empaquetats (Packing Shed) abandonada. El noi somia en convertir-se en campió mundial de boxa i així poder treure a la seva família de la pobresa.

\nNo obstant això, l'ajuntament amenaça amb acomiadar a l'entrenador de boxa, i això és un tema que li manté alerta. El seu millor amic de la infància, Beto, està ficat en una banda criminal, i Miguel Ángel es veu temptat a sucumbir als seus ardits per a guanyar una mica de diners.

\nD'altra banda, el protagonista coneix a Britney, una noia rica de 16 anys amb la qual manté una relació secreta, ja que el seu pare els mataria a tots dos si s'assabentés, per no considerar a Miguel Ángel digne de la seva filla.

\nBritney es queda embarassada, un pes afegit a la difícil situació que Miguel ja està vivint. Amb tot a la seva esquena, el nostre protagonista ha d'aprendre a bregar amb això, i afrontar tots aquells obstacles que se li presenten.
