After years in hiding, former police officer Alanna Caley emerges from her refuge to confront the cartel that murdered her husband and uncover a devastating truth: the enemy is her own family.
Alanna Caley, the officer who led the failed Operation Pandora against the Sinaloa Cartel, lives in seclusion in a small town after losing her husband and seeing her career destroyed. But her past catches up with her when the cartel—now under the command of Santiago Guzmán, known as “El Chivo”—begins murdering every police officer involved in Pandora. Alanna is next.
Her adoptive father, Commissioner Caley, sends two officers to find and protect her, but he himself is assassinated. Forced out of hiding, Alanna begins her own search for answers. Along the way she crosses paths with Maverick Reyes, an impulsive police officer with whom she shares a mutual drive to survive—and an unexpected attraction.
Alanna carries a secret: years earlier, Armando de la Cruz, a former cartel trafficker, claimed to be her biological father. Although she never believed him, she now suspects he may know something about the chain of murders.
Alanna is kidnapped by Raúl de la Cruz, Armando’s son—and possibly her brother. At the house where she is held, she also meets her supposed mother, whom she believed to be dead. There, both confirm her family ties. Armando was indeed her biological father and, to protect her from the cartel, he handed her over to Commissioner Caley as part of a deal. After Armando’s betrayal and murder at the hands of El Chivo, Raúl and his mother seek revenge and ask Alanna to join them. She understands the magnitude of what she has discovered—but chooses to escape.
She turns to Timón, an old informant, who reveals the worst truth of all: her husband, Yago Rivera, is alive. He is El Chivo’s illegitimate son—and the one who betrayed her. He killed Commissioner Caley and now intends to hand Alanna over to the cartel to earn his father’s favor.
Desperate, Alanna hides at Maverick’s home, but a sniper critically wounds her. Afraid to go to a hospital, she calls Raúl, believing she can trust him. Minutes later, a hit squad storms in, injures Maverick, and abducts her. Alanna once again falls into the hands of her own family. Raúl decides that Maverick must die for being a police officer.
Alanna’s fate is now split between her newly discovered blood family and the law she has always served.
