Hilario Peña is a Mexican writer who has established himself as a prominent voice in noir fiction, police novels, and contemporary thrillers. Largely self-taught and driven by a powerful narrative imagination, his work is characterized by plots that blend humor, social critique, and suspense.
Since his debut novel, Hilario Peña has published numerous works that have cemented his reputation as a prolific storyteller within Mexican thriller and noir fiction. His Detective Malasuerte series has been both a critical and commercial success, standing out for its humorous and endearing protagonist, who departs from the traditional detective archetype. In 2016, he was awarded the José Rubén Romero Fine Arts Novel Prize.
