Karina Sainz Borgo is a Venezuelan writer and journalist based in Spain. Specializing in cultural journalism, she currently works for the newspaper ABC.
Alongside her journalistic career, she has published several works of nonfiction and developed a distinguished literary trajectory shaped by themes such as the Venezuelan diaspora, violence, migration, survival, and loss.
Her debut novel, It Would Be Night in Caracas (2019), became an international publishing phenomenon. Translated into more than twenty languages and awarded the Grand Prix de l’Héroïne Madame Figaro, the novel established Sainz Borgo as one of the most remarkable voices in contemporary Spanish-language literature. The book was later adapted for the screen under the title Aún es de noche en Caracas.
Throughout her career, she has also received the Jan Michalski Prize and was shortlisted for the Prix Grand Continent. In 2023, she was awarded the David Gistau Journalism Prize, further cementing a career that successfully combines literary creation and journalism.
