Mercedes Duque Espiau was awarded the 3rd Juan Ruiz de Torres International Short Story Prize in 2023. In 2025, she published her debut novel, Animales pequeños, a work praised by critics for its moving prose and for offering a faithful generational portrait of human relationships and contemporary social issues.
