Alone At The Top

The further you go, the closer you’ll be to oblivion.

A man awakens from a restful sleep when, suddenly, he is assaulted by a disturbing and confusing thought: he doesn’t remember how he got there, and he doesn’t know where or who he is. He finds himself in an unfamiliar house full of strange individuals he has never seen before, but who seem to know who he is.

He soon discovers that he is actually a client of the mysterious organization Alone At The Top (AATT), responsible for his amnesia. AATT is a luxury resort where all kinds of artists come to forget their memories for a brief period and for different purposes.

He is Elk Hawthorne, the best-selling author of The Current, who decided to erase his memories in a desperate attempt to regain the creativity needed to write the second part of his work. It is explained to Elk that the individuals in the house are the characters in his novel and that the resetting of his memory has originated this particular encounter. However, this explanation seems insufficient for Elk and he plunges himself into a maelstrom of doubts and fears.

Along with Ann Gundersen, an Alone At the Top client who seems weirdly familiar, Elk will find himself involved in increasingly surreal and distressing situations in what seems to be a mental labyrinth of hallucinations and simulations that will make him doubt his very existence.

Finally, he will discover that he is a police commissioner who has pioneered a new investigation method: entering the suspects’ minds to find proof of their crimes. However, Elk has ended up being the victim of his own experiment when the criminal he was testing locks him in his own subconscious, thus creating Alone At the Top.

When everything seems to be over, Elk Hawthorne discovers that there’s a large amount of money in his bank account, corresponding to the sales of the supposed best-seller he has created in his dream and his wife has the same physique as Ann Gundersen; thus, creating a situation in which Elk does not know what is real and what is a dream.
