Baby Princess (La princesa bebé)

In the distant Kingdom of Swabia, Princess Elena, –Baby by express desire of his uncle, the Emperor Miguel Alexander- is forced to marry a rough man whom she does not love. She, unhappy with the situation, intends to divorce him and join Knight Rosmer. At the same time, the other nephew of the Monarch, Prince Stephen, wishes to marry the singer Elsa Kenisberg, to the Court’s dismay. Both nephews renounce their privileges to achieve their desires. They roam around the high society hubs of Europe, sometimes of dubious moral, including casinos and dances, but not achieving happiness. The cousins mutually acknowledge their misery and long for what could have been a happy life.

 

RELEVANT FACTS: Benavente won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1922. He treated all the theatrical genres and developed a broad gallery of human characters. Many of his plays have been taken to cinema with success and many versions for TV have been made. Benavente’s dialogues are excellent, full with irony. He has been compared to Oscar Wilde.
