Caiman (Caimán)

It narrates the story of Rosa, the protagonist, a mother desperate to find her missing daughter who fell through a hole left when a work was paralyzed after the bankruptcy of the company in charge. However, the rescue teams cannot find the girl. Therefore, Rosa lives in a constant lie, convinced that the girl will return home someday to save her from the world in which she lives, from the jaws of the caiman. On his part, Néstor, the husband, tries to have his wife accept the truth of their daughter’s death, but Rosa lives in a constant unreality, a lie, which leads to a sad outcome; Rosa believing she has found the girl in the whole, commits suicide.

 

RELEVANT FACTS: Caiman is a play by Antonio Buero Vallejo premiered at the Teatro Reina Victoria in Madrid on September 10, 1981. The play dramatizes the problems of the 80’s.

Buero Vallejo is the great theatrical author of the twentieth century. He won the Premio Miguel de Cervantes (1986) and the Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas (1996). In addition, he has received in four occasions the Premio Nacional de Teatro and also the Honorary Max Theatre Award, among many other distinctions.
