Don Quintín, the bitter one (Don Quintín el amargao o el que siembra vientos)

Don Quintin, driven by jealousy, kicked out his daughter Teresa’s mother. Doubting about his paternity, he left the girl for adoption and lives now his life with a bitter taste. After some time, his wife dies ratifying in her last will that Don Quintin is Teresa’s father. When Quintin looks for Teresa he does not find her, since she had fled from the adoption home because she was mistreated. After some time, they meet again but they do not recognize each other.

 

RELEVANT FACTS: Don Quintín has had two cinematographic versions from Buñuel, one in Spain during the Second Republic, and another one in Mexico. It is a play with great possibilities as soap opera given that it includes in its development the fundamentals of the genre: antagonistic social classes, love, hate, revenge and a happy ending.

Arniches was part of the brilliant Generation of ’98, and comedies were his specialty. Many of his plays were adapted to cinema.
