One morning, Pere’s wife emerges from her smoke-filled kitchen after a fire, claiming someone tried to kill her. The police dismiss it as a domestic accident, but Curro—accustomed to reading the pulse of the place—starts paying attention to what he knows best: the neighbors’ habits. He notices that Pere leaves the house every dawn without explanation, that one supposedly vacant villa shows signs of recent activity, and that a valuable painting stolen months earlier has never resurfaced.
Without intending to, Curro and Nando become investigators. They ask discreet questions, compare schedules, and track subtle movements. The concierge brings his knowledge of the complex; the son contributes curiosity and access to places where no one notices him. The first major twist comes when the stolen painting is found hidden inside the unoccupied villa.
The culprit turns out to be the complex administrator, who confesses to stealing it under blackmail: his teenage son had threatened to release deepfake sexual videos of him. The plan was to collect the insurance money and flee the country with his lover, a young man living in the development while pretending to be a successful influencer.
But what seems like the resolution of the case opens the door to something deeper. Curro discovers that Pere had secretly moved the painting himself. Suffering from a terminal illness, he needs precisely the insurance payout to fund an experimental treatment and was prepared to commit fraud without his family’s knowledge.
At the same time, Nando becomes concerned about another resident: a teenage heiress whose health deteriorates by the day. She lives with her aunt, who insists she has an eating disorder. But evidence Nando uncovers inside the villa reveals the truth—the girl is being slowly poisoned to hasten her inheritance.
Another secret surfaces from the past. A recently arrived French couple is not vacationing—they are descendants of the former owner of the land on which the complex was built. Decades earlier, Pere acquired the property through a rigged poker game that ruined the man and drove him to suicide. Now, his relatives have returned to expose the fraudulent origins of El Jardín del Mar.
The blackmail of the administrator, the insurance scam, the poisoning of the heiress, and the return of the French family are all threads of the same web of lies, money, and silence that Pere has woven over the years to protect his legacy and status.
Curro gathers evidence of every crime, but before he can report them, Pere emotionally manipulates his son, convincing him that the concierge is blackmailing the family and trying to destroy them. That same night, the son kills Curro and throws his body into the sea.
Devastated, Nando decides to finish the investigation his father could not. He summons all the residents to the complex library and reconstructs the case step by step, dismantling alibis and exposing secrets until he identifies the true mastermind: the man who created El Jardín del Mar.
One year later, Nando returns to the development’s lookout point. The landscape remains perfect; the sea still glitters at dawn. But he now knows what lies beneath the calm.
