The play tells the story of the change in fortune suffered by Fernando, who was master and lord; due to fiscal debts, he turns into servant. At the same time, Timoteo, his former assistant, starts to be master himself. Fernando’s girlfriend, Elvira, in pure monetary interest, turns her attention to Suárez, the tax collector.
