Soleil Bisset, a woman exhausted from being invisible to her family, vanishes during a flash flood, faking her own death. Thus, Moon Aubry is born: an expert in infiltration and hacking who now works in the shadows. But when she discovers her ex-husband has become a target for hitmen, a relentless chase begins—one that will put everyone from her past in danger. A truly original thriller, packed with action, tension, and emotional depth, featuring a protagonist who stands out for her strength, complexity, and uniqueness.
Soleil Bisset lives a dull life in her village, silenced by her husband, Judge Eric Bisset, and controlled by an oppressive family. Despite her background in computer engineering, she lives in isolation with no independence. In secret, she begins accepting illegal hacking jobs. But when her contact, Maurice, is murdered and a flood devastates the town, Soleil vanishes, faking her death to start over. Thus, Moon Aubry is born.
Six years later, Moon lives in Paris under a new identity with her new husband, Simon, and works as an expert in hacking and infiltration. Everything changes when she discovers a hit contract on the dark web targeting Eric, her former husband. She kidnaps him to protect him and, while keeping him hidden, uncovers a network of real estate corruption: the construction of a port project built on a foundation of covered-up deaths, falsified forensic reports, and judicial pressure. Behind it all are Gérard Muller, a lawyer representing a shadowy developer, and Cheney, a dangerous criminal who knows Moon and gives orders to eliminate both her and Eric.
Moon receives a warning from her husband Simon, who also knows Cheney: they’re in serious danger. A high-speed chase begins, with Moon and Eric barely surviving thanks to Simon’s help. Simon, however, is not so lucky—he is shot during one of the firefights and goes down.
The danger peaks when Daniel, the son of Moon and Eric, is kidnapped. Moon launches a relentless pursuit to find those responsible, dodging hitmen while piecing together her past. Meanwhile, the police investigation into Eric and Daniel’s disappearance also involves Moon’s parents, who—despite evidence presented by the authorities suggesting that Moon is actually their daughter Soleil, missing for years—still believe she died in the flood.
Moon secretly contacts her parents: she wants to reassure them and also get firsthand information about the investigation. Then, from London, she receives an ultimatum: kill Eric to save Daniel. Forced to choose, Moon makes the hardest decision of her life. During the exchange, she executes Eric in front of the kidnappers. In doing so, she manages to recover Daniel and ensures his safety by delivering him to his grandmother.
But Eric has survived. And Simon, Moon’s current partner, is also still alive. At the hospital, the three cross paths once more, as the police investigate an international criminal network and take Moon into custody, linking her to several murders. Moon and Simon then receive an unexpected offer: Interpol wants to recruit her as an undercover agent in exchange for her freedom. She accepts. She has been presumed dead—but Moon is back to stay.

Morir dos veces stands out for the complexity of its protagonist and the intensity of its plot. It’s not a conventional thriller: what grips the reader is not just the action—though there’s plenty of it—but the emotional evolution of a woman who reinvents herself after hitting rock bottom. With strong dramatic undertones, the story delves into contradictions, loss, and moral dilemmas. Readers find themselves torn between empathy and confusion, as Moon doesn’t always make the most expected choices, but always acts out of a deeply human survival instinct.
The novel maintains a high level of tension and pacing throughout. It combines crime, real estate corruption, chases, shootouts, and kidnappings with intimate, quiet, deeply human moments. Moon is not alone; she is surrounded by a powerful and complex supporting cast.
Beyond its narrative strength, Morir dos veces is highly adaptable to screen format: short chapters, constant cliffhangers, sharp dialogue, and a female lead who defies clichés. It’s a thriller full of layers—equal parts gripping entertainment and a portrait of a woman who decides to stop running and start fighting.
