Original project based on real events, this is a true crime story about the infamous Vall d’Hebron rapist in pre-Olympic Barcelona, 1990, where two police officers—opposites in character and each hiding personal secrets—are forced to work together to catch him. While the city, more concerned with its international image than with the crimes committed in its streets, prefers to look the other way, the perpetrator’s violence intensifies, challenging those determined to stop him.

 

Barcelona, 1990. As the city transforms in preparation for the Olympics, a brutal threat lurks in the streets of the Vall d’Hebron neighborhood. Montse, a young woman, is raped one night by a masked man who reads out her personal details before vanishing. Terrified but determined, she reports the crime. At the heart of the investigation are two cops who can’t stand each other but must work together: Garrigues, a seasoned inspector hardened by his wife’s death, and Clara, a young inspector hiding her relationship with another woman in a hostile, conservative environment. Professional and personal tensions collide at every step.

As they pursue the attacker, another woman, Paula—trapped in a toxic relationship with her possessive partner Fermín—suffers the same assault. Ashamed and broken, she cannot even bring herself to tell her father what she has endured. Meanwhile, Luis, a young and ambitious journalist desperate for a career-making scoop, draws closer to Garrigues for information. As more assaults occur, Clara and Garrigues discover these are not isolated incidents: each attack follows a pattern—broken glass, personalized threats, the theft of a specific item. They know a serial rapist is on the loose, but their superiors would rather bury the case than tarnish Barcelona’s image ahead of the 1992 Olympics.

When an ETA attack diverts public attention, Garrigues breaks the rules: he leaks the case to Luis, who publishes the story and unleashes panic. Armed neighborhood patrols take to the streets, tension rises, and the victims oscillate between fear and the desire for justice. Montse relives her trauma, Paula suspects she might be pregnant, and the rapist grows bolder and more violent. Until one woman escapes, breaking the cycle.

Her escape changes everything. A stolen ring becomes the key clue that leads investigators closer to the attacker. The case spirals into frantic action: arrests, failed line-ups, political and media pressure… until Clara and Garrigues finally capture José R. Salvador, while Luis secures the exclusive that cements his career. The story ends on a haunting image: José R., alone and desolate in his cell, after 28 rapes. Across Barcelona, a bitter but necessary sense of victory lingers.

Alternating with flashbacks, the second season follows the judicial process against José R. Salvador, exposing the flaws that denied justice to several victims and introducing new key figures: a strict judge, an obsessive prosecutor, a feminist lawyer, and the rapist’s cunning defense attorney. After serving his sentence and declaring his intent to reoffend, José R. is pursued by journalist Luis, now older and more seasoned. In the end, the rapist dies mysteriously in Vall d’Hebron, pushed by a female figure, leaving behind the unsettling trace of a final, silent act of justice.

Carlos Quílez is a Spanish journalist and writer specializing in crime narratives and investigative reporting, known for his meticulous approach and raw, direct style. He currently divides his work between Onda Cero and, primarily, La Sexta. José Luis Acosta is a film and television director and screenwriter, whose work has been nominated for the Goya Awards and has received more than 35 national and international prizes.
