In a remote mountain hotel, four men—Edgar, Wilson, Ramírez and Salazar—arrive with a precise plan: to steal the jewels from a small local museum. Easy access, minimal security, a clean getaway. But there is an unwelcome guest at the hotel: Palomares, a veteran criminal who has betrayed them too many times. In fact, Wilson knows it was Palomares who killed Clara, his partner, and he wants revenge. What was supposed to be a surgical job turns into a bloodbath when Wilson hacks him to death with an axe in front of everyone. The robbery takes a back seat: now the priority is hiding a corpse that is beginning to become a curse of its own. Because they are not alone. Someone is watching them.

Manila envelopes begin to appear: photographs of the crime, sharp and clear, taken at night from impossible angles. Every image carries a message: we know what you did. Behind them is Bengoas, a sick old man whose heart beats to the rhythm of revenge. Years earlier, his wife Julia was murdered during a robbery at their home—the same robbery in which Wilson lost Clara. He believes Salazar was responsible for it all. His ally is Patricia, his daughter, who swore revenge for her mother’s death that night. Camera in hand, Patricia documented the settling of accounts with Palomares, and her photographs now make the group of criminals tremble because of the possible consequences. And far from being satisfied with merely scaring them with the photographs, Bengoas has hired Harrison Rey, a thug burdened with debts and possessing few loyalties, to turn revenge into a macabre art, using the hotel as his stage: he leaves envelopes in the darkness, exhumes Palomares’s body and places it in Salazar’s room… Little by little, the group’s trust begins to break down and old hatreds and resentments continue to surface.

The tension boils over. Edgar tries to maintain the fragile balance, Wilson drowns himself in whisky, Ramírez retreats into a tense silence, and Salazar only wants to escape. Until Rey carries out his final order: kidnapping Salazar and bringing him before Bengoas. The old man accuses Salazar, who denies it and blames Palomares for Julia’s death. Bengoas hesitates… and orders the shot. But at that very moment, Rey changes the rules: instead of killing Salazar, he blows Bengoas’s head off. Not out of mercy, but cold calculation.

Rey has made a pact with Edgar. Edgar will betray everyone and hand over the stolen jewels, and Rey will give him the photographs. Wealth in exchange for eliminating the evidence against him. The group’s rivalries have finally consumed them, and Rey has taken advantage of it. However, when Edgar goes to deliver the jewels to Rey, Wilson—who should not still be alive—appears and kills Edgar. In the struggle that follows, Rey kills Wilson and disappears with the jewels. He pays off his debt and reinvents himself as a private investigator. He believes he has won.

But they had forgotten someone. Weeks later, a new manila envelope arrives on Rey’s desk. Four photographs incriminate him in Wilson’s murder. Patricia has done it again. The past, with its sharp smile, opens the door once more.
