The Bakery of Wonders (El obrador de los prodigios)

A love letter to the legendary bakery and its city, Barcelona.

Mateu Serra is a boy who decides to leave his hometown, Lérida, to go in the search of his brothers to Barcelona. He finds one of them, Antón, working in a bakery. Years later, Mateu will start up his own bakery, together with his wife. At the Barcelona Universal Exhibition work is so overwhelming that they decide to hire Antonio Escribà. Antonio becomes very famous thanks to his cakes and, when the couple retire, he will inherit the business and rename it as Escribà, becoming a reference in the city.

Alba works as a cook in a company but she always dreamed of having her own bakery. Every time she sees the name Escribà, she dreams of working there. She manages to do so. At the beginning, she is employed as a shop assistant and, after showing her great skills, as a cook assistant.

Alba is extremely happy, she does not suffer from insomnia anymore, and she is right where she wants to be. Later on, she opens her own business. However, some family and love complications will not allow her to enjoy fully her best professional moment.

The story will take us through different periods of 20th Century in Barcelona, starting at the end of the 19th Century. From the first bakery of Mateu until the first of the Escribà, the crisis during the Civil War, which split families, until the techniques and creativity perfection when big pastry-making figures appear. Being a woman in the bakery world will become an obstacle for Alba, at the same time that the love triangle she finds herself in and her biological mother showing up will also mark her life deeply.
