A man over fifty looks back on his life seeking clues to explain his present. He talks about his father, a merchant who cheated on his wife with a neighbour, his eagerness to leave his hometown, his first trip that led him to the Taj-Mahal in India, his rise in the social ladder while he conquered both riches and power. But looking at his present, he only sees failure.
