Violins and trumpets

This play, very important during the Spanish Transition, tells the life, day by day, of three chamber musicians who have not only the same profession but also the same love interests. The play was very important in Spain as it turned around the repression on sex, desires and frustrations that existed for forty years under the dictatorship of Franco. The characters have a humanity generally nonexistent in vaudeville. The thread carrying the story is Beethoven’s Archduke Trio.

Its successive representations have always garnered a huge success for both public and critics. The play is a good base to develop on Spain during the Transition within a comical environment. It was adapted to the big screen in 1984.

Moncada won the Premio Nacional Calderón de la Barca in 1956 and 1963 (shared). He was also awarded the Planeta Award.
