The widow marries Esteban, who is permanently rejected by Acacia. But the hatred between Acacia and Esteban is only a mask that hides the honest deep love they feel for each other. Now, Esteban starts to get rid of all the men that come close to Acacia, who starts to be known as \"Malquerida\".\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<strong>RELEVANT FACTS<\/strong>: As a play, it has been staged several times, it was even adapted into a musical in 1996, directed by Alfredo Ma\u00f1as. It has been made into a movie three different times: 1914 (Ricardo Ba\u00f1os), 1939 (Jos\u00e9 L\u00f3pez Rubio) and 1950 (Emilio Fernandez). It was also versioned for TV four times (1968, 1977, 2006 and 2014) and very recently it was made into the successful soap opera produced by Televisa (2014).\r\n\r\nBenavente won the <strong>Nobel Prize in Literature<\/strong> in 1922. He treated all the theatrical genres and developed a broad gallery of human characters. Many of his plays have been taken to cinema with success and many versions for TV have been made. Benavente\u2019s dialogues are excellent, full with irony.
