Desperate for work, she accepts a position as the defendant\u2019s interpreter.\r\n\r\nMar\u00eda S\u00e1nchez and Ben Curry, her husband, were a well-known couple at local bars, where they used to get drunk and fight. Even though Mar\u00eda acted in self-defense, the killing of a white man by a Mexican woman is not permissible in a time when women still live subjugated to men.\r\n\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\n<strong>RELEVANT DATA<\/strong>: <em>Verdict in the Desert <\/em>was one of the <strong>Latina Book Club Books of the Year.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThis work explores one of the most conservative states of the US, going deep in controversial topics such as racism, class inequality or alcoholism.\r\n\r\nSantos is an author that has won numerous awards not only for her professional career as a journalist, but also for her literary repertoire.
