And it seems that everyone connected to the victim is hiding something.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"840\" data-end=\"1047\">As the investigation unfolds alongside her colleague and former lover Laura, Sof\u00eda must deal with a society resistant to changing times, while fighting to keep both her job and the love of her teenage son.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1049\" data-end=\"1404\">In <strong><em data-start=\"1052\" data-end=\"1089\">The Case of the Dead Japanese Women<\/em><\/strong>, still recovering from gender reassignment surgery, Sof\u00eda Luna returns to the Squad to investigate the murders of several Japanese tourists. The killer leaves graffiti in the city\u2019s most touristic spots, and the victims seem to share, in addition to their nationality, another common trait: they are all asexual.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1406\" data-end=\"1763\">Sof\u00eda enters the world of organised tourism, where corruption is on the rise, and also the circles of asexual people, a large community in Japan and increasingly significant in Spain, who reject the hypersexualisation of modern life and whose favourite animal is the starfish. Fittingly, a starfish is always found beside the bodies of the murdered women.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"1765\" data-end=\"2026\">Who is this serial killer targeting victims in the tourist heart of Madrid? Sof\u00eda and her team must work under intense media pressure, especially when the daughter of the Japanese ambassador \u2014 a lively young woman with somewhat strange behaviour \u2014 disappears.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2028\" data-end=\"2258\">At the same time, Sof\u00eda must reconnect with her estranged father when he is arrested for killing a man. The investigation begins to uncover mysteries that force Sof\u00eda to wonder whether she has ever truly known her father at all.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2028\" data-end=\"2258\"><\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2260\" data-end=\"2613\"><strong>RELEVANT INFORMATION:<\/strong> The character is inspired by a real case: an English police officer who underwent gender reassignment surgery and suffered rejection from every aspect of life \u2014 professional, social and family. In the real case, the officer dressed as a man when visiting his children and returned to feminine clothing for the rest of daily life.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2615\" data-end=\"2956\">Sof\u00eda Luna, the protagonist of this saga, does not go quite that far. However, she does struggle to gain acceptance from her eighteen-year-old son, who finds it difficult to process the fact that he now has two mothers. The saga is composed of two novels: the first, <em data-start=\"2882\" data-end=\"2898\">The End of Man<\/em>, and the second, <em data-start=\"2916\" data-end=\"2953\">The Case of the Dead Japanese Women<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"2958\" data-end=\"3167\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Antonio Mercero<\/span><\/span> wrote the screenplay for the film <em data-start=\"3030\" data-end=\"3044\">La verg\u00fcenza<\/em>, directed by <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">David Planell<\/span><\/span>.
