In his absence, Dami\u00e1n and the corrupt Policarpo build a commercial empire based on deceit, while Hugo forges his own path far from home.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\">Accompanied by Azerwan, a Tunisian slave who becomes his friend and business partner, Hugo leaves the New Lands to establish a salt settlement in the African desert. There, he experiences both success and tragedy: Azerwan is murdered by Aos, a religious fanatic, and Hugo avenges him in a decisive confrontation. Alongside Ubayda, Azerwan\u2019s widow, Hugo discovers a new way of loving, though his heart remains bound to Berenguela.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\">Tired of Dami\u00e1n\u2019s abuse and infidelity, Berenguela flees and attempts to reunite with Hugo, but she falls ill and becomes stranded in Europe. Meanwhile, Hugo arrives in Leuven with Ubayda and transforms his life: starting as a laborer on the construction of a church, he becomes an apprentice to master glassmaker Van Diependaal and soon stands out for his unique talent. He travels to Paris, studies the secrets of Sainte-Chapelle, and is eventually named a master, establishing his own workshop and receiving major commissions, including the stained-glass windows of the Cartuja de Miraflores in Burgos.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\">Back in Bruges, Berenguela confronts Dami\u00e1n to dismantle his fraudulent empire and contacts Grosenberg, a lawyer and cloth merchant ruined by Dami\u00e1n, who offers his legal and practical support. As she sets her plan in motion, Berenguela faces threats from her husband, is kidnapped, and nearly sold into slavery before being rescued by Grosenberg.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\">Berenguela eventually reconnects with Hugo, only to discover that he has built a life with Ubayda. Despite everything, she declares her eternal love. Tragedy strikes when Ubayda, pregnant with Hugo\u2019s child, dies in childbirth, leaving behind their daughter Fa\u00edza. Berenguela stays to help Hugo raise the child, and gradually their relationship grows stronger. Hugo finds in his daughter, and in his renewed love for Berenguela, the strength to move forward.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\">Meanwhile, Dami\u00e1n refuses to give up: a fugitive from justice, he returns armed to Leuven, determined to kill Hugo, Berenguela, and the child Fa\u00edza\u2014driven by envy of his half-brother\u2019s success, hatred for the love between Hugo and Berenguela, and fear of losing his business and honor. Renata, Berenguela\u2019s friend, intervenes at the last moment, stabbing Dami\u00e1n and saving them.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\">The story culminates in Burgos, with the inauguration of the stained-glass windows at the Cartuja de Miraflores, created by Hugo and admired even by Queen Isabella I of Castile.
