It is then that they discover APNA, a secret community of parents who have experienced the same phenomenon: children who travel to fantastical worlds, return profoundly changed, and are inevitably destined to leave again. The revelation offers a measure of comfort, but also a devastating truth: there is no way to stop the children from departing\u2014only to await their return, or mourn their absence.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-GB\">Each reappearance of Ben feels miraculous yet painful. For him, only weeks pass; for his parents, years of suffering accumulate. Unable to withstand the emotional strain, Susan dies, while Edward becomes trapped between hope and obsession. Wumple, the beloved companion of his adventures, will never return. Refusing to accept this reality, Ben clings to the memory of his heroic quest, condemned to wait for a call that will never come.
