In the late 1990s, he spent two years in Bosnia\u2014an experience that profoundly marked him and inspired his first novels.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">As a novelist, he has explored a wide range of genres, though he is particularly well known for his work in children\u2019s and young adult literature. He has also worked as a comic book writer.
