He later worked as a writer on <i>M\u00e9dico de familia<\/i> and <i>Periodistas<\/i>, projects that marked the beginning of his career in television fiction.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">He went on to contribute to the development of <i>El Comisario<\/i>, one of the longest-running and most successful series in Spanish television history. In 2000, he moved into film, writing five feature-length movies, among them <i>El arte de morir<\/i> and <i>Trece campanadas<\/i>.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">In 2019, he premiered <i>Hern\u00e1n<\/i>, as showrunner\u2014the highest-budget series in the history of Spanish-language television\u2014produced with the participation of TV Azteca and Amazon Studios, among others. Other notable series he has worked on include <i>Cu\u00e9ntame c\u00f3mo pas\u00f3<\/i>, <i>Las aventuras del capit\u00e1n Alatriste<\/i>, <i>El Cid<\/i>, <i>Desaparecidos<\/i>, and <i>Como agua para chocolate<\/i>, where he served as Head Writer.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">For his work on <i>Cu\u00e9ntame c\u00f3mo pas\u00f3<\/i>, Curro Royo received the <b>Iris Award from the Spanish Television Academy for Best Screenplay<\/b>.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span lang=\"EN-US\">Alongside his creative work, Curro has built an important teaching career.
