Ana Paula Maia

Ana Paula Maia is a Brazilian writer, screenwriter, and musician, known for a distinctive body of work that combines narrative power, symbolic depth, and a critical perspective on the contemporary world. Throughout her career she has written screenplays, theatrical monologues, and novels, establishing herself as one of the most prominent voices in contemporary Brazilian literature.

Her novel Of Cattle and Men has received major international recognition, including the Cercador Prize and the PEN Translates Award, and was longlisted for the Republic of Consciousness Prize in the UK and Ireland. It was also selected by The Guardian and Foyles as one of the best books translated into English in 2023.

She also received the São Paulo Prize for Literature for Best Book of the Year for her novel As on Earth as Below the Earth, confirming her position as one of the most relevant authors of her generation.

Her works have been translated into German, Croatian, Spanish, English, and Italian, and several have been adapted for audiovisual formats, while others are currently in development. As a screenwriter, she took part in the series Desalma, expanding her presence in film and television.
