Ave Barrera is a Mexican writer, editor, and translator. She holds a degree in Hispanic Literature from the University of Guadalajara, completed a master’s degree in Modern Portuguese Literature at UNAM, and pursued professional training in publishing. Throughout her career, she has worked as an editor, translator, and creative writing instructor, and currently coordinates the Vindictas collection at UNAM.
Her literary work spans novels, short fiction, children’s literature, and artist books. Her debut novel received the Sergio Galindo Latin American First Novel Prize, followed by the publication of Restoration (2019), which was awarded the Lipp La Brasserie Prize.
Her work explores memory, power dynamics, identity, and violence through narratives marked by unsettling atmospheres and profound psychological depth. She has also addressed femicide in the artist book project 21,000 Princesses, created in collaboration with Lola Hörner and awarded the Lía International Artist Book Competition Prize in 2015.
