Lieutenant Colonel Juan Reinaldo Sánchez was Fidel Castro’s personal bodyguard for 17 years, as well as an intelligence officer for the Cuban Ministry of the Interior. Sánchez, with a law degree and training in espionage and counterespionage, in addition to protecting the life of the Cuban leader, also trained the team of bodyguards that surrounded him.



He is the author of The Double Life of Fidel Castro: 17 Years as the Personal Bodyguard of the Maximum Leader. Written with renowned French journalist Axel Gyldén (who works for the prestigious French magazine L’Express), the book was originally published in France in 2014 and was later published in other languages, including Spanish, Portuguese and German.
