A courageous woman in a man’s world.

It is the year 1137. The Duque of Aquitania, the most powerful region in France, appears dead in Compostela. His daughter Eleanor is only 13 years old when she inherits the dukedom. Her first mission is to find out who poisoned her father, although she is convinced that the instigator was the king of France, Louis VI the Fat, so she decides to get revenge.

To carry out her plan, she marries Louis, the king’s son, who is next to inherit the French throne. Louis doesn’t want to get married to Eleanor, because she has an explosive character and is prone to fights, but his father obliges her to.

Eleanor becomes the wife of the Dolphin of France and starts to live in the court where her father’s assassin lives. But the king Louis VI dies from food poisoning during the wedding celebration, in the same circumstances as the Duke of Aquitania.

Eleanor and the new king will try to find out who is behind both deaths. Louis, who Eleanor thought was her rival, becomes her confidant, friend, and lover.

It won’t be easy to figure out who committed the crime, because they have many suspects. On top of this, Eleanor will have to survive in a court that isn’t hers. Love, hate, betrayal and lies, macabre deaths and murders, incest and rape will become part of her everyday life. Eleanor will risk losing the throne and will discover that no one is who they say they are. Her biggest enemy turns out to be the illegitimate brother of Louis VII, the best man of the new king, who turns out to be the man behind the murders.

Eleanor slowly starts to become part of the court. Her resistance, her determination and her courage as a queen make her receive the nickname ‘Manticore’, a mythological animal with a lion’s head, an eagle’s body, and a scorpion’s tail.

Eleanor of Aquitania was a fascinating woman who reigned in a world dominated by men and was the protagonist of a turbulent and captivating story about the forging of Europe.
