A stubborn immigrant from southern Spain unexpectedly finds in the Basque Country of the 70s a place to build a future.

After the first ETA (armed nationalist and separatist organization in the Basque Country, Spain) killings in 1968, the Francoist regime targeted the Basque people.

Despite the social and political instability, an adventurous man from Cáceres named José Bajo Fernández decides to leave his homeland behind and go in search for a better life in the Basque Country.  Once there, José will find out what it means to start from scratch, far away from the place where he was born, and surrounded by a culture that is very different to the one he is used to.

This way, we go deep into a story of adaptation to a local culture, of nostalgia of the lost homeland, and of a constant struggle to prosper in life. The story of José Bajo Fernández is comparable to those of the people who had to leave their homes to go on an epic voyage ridden by the economic scarcity of an oppressive and dictatorial nation.

Cacereño is, on the one hand, a necessary and just tribute to those emigrants who, with effort and willpower, joined the family tree of the euskaldunes and, on the other hand, an acknowledgement of those euskaldunes that understood them, loved them and eventually ended up merging with them.

RELEVANT INFORMATION: The novel, which fully addresses Basque culture, was published in Spain when censorship was at its peak, and when everything related to the Basque Country was demonized and persecuted.
