Mission to the deserted village (Misión al pueblo desierto)

During the Spanish Civil War, the visions of diverse characters, inside the Republican side, interweave. In the main storyline, Damian and his companion Plácido (who is a painter), have the mission of protecting The Greco’s paintings, so that they are not either bombed or taken by the Nationals. The two main characters illustrate ideological differences among Republicans.

RELEVANT FACTS: With this play full of frenetic action and emotivism, Buero Vallejo lively recreates episodes from the Spanish Civil War, and, at the same time, discusses the necessity of not leaving the past behind, reminding us that human nobility, hope and art survive to any war.

Buero Vallejo is the great theatrical author of the twentieth century. He won the Premio Miguel de Cervantes (1986) and the Premio Nacional de las Letras Españolas (1996). In addition, he has received in four occasions the Premio Nacional de Teatro and also the Honorary Max Theatre Award, among many other distinctions.
