Tension at the threshold (La tensión del umbral)

The danger is to try to understand.

Argentina, 2008. The investigation of a suicide will cause an endless spiral of violence. A woman commits suicide in the middle of the street city center, daylight, after an argument with a mysterious man who all the witnesses seem to know. The police decide not to investigate the case. However, Guyot, a journalist with a complex past and an unsteady present, with contacts at the police station, starts to look into it. He suspects it is not just any random suicide nor even a suicide exactly. He is right. The few clues the woman left are just the tip of an iceberg with which Guyot will rebuild a case that reaches from the back streets to the highest levels of society and connect with corruption from Argentinian dictatorship during the 70s.

While his investigation progresses, new murders are committed, snowballing into a spiral of unsettled scores, all connected with this suicide. This investigation will put Guyot and his loved ones in danger, when, from the highest position in the ministry, he is asked to stop the investigation. The corrupt part of the police, always working in the shadows and with the aid of some part of the media introducing euphemisms such as “confused episodes”, keeps on adding victims to a list that includes also police officers and journalists searching for the truth.

The leader of the Gravisimos band, an elite group formed by police officers, soldiers and civilians, recounts some of the most sinister aspects of their modus operandi during phone sessions with a retired psychoanalyst. In his story there is no regret, only bragging about his complete impunity.
