A young girl disappears. Canelo, a young boy, declares he killed her and carved her up. When the trial arrives, the play takes the form of a farce: surrounded by surreal events, the executioner resigns. Unexpectedly, the victim appears in Portugal.
RELEVANT FACTS: Adapted from a play from Pío Baroja, Alonso de Santos’ version had a great success and got represented up to 400 times in the span of just three years. This text was forbidden during Franco’s regime for its treatment of the death penalty that was applicable during that period.
Alonso de Santos is one of the most outstanding authors alive in the Spanish contemporary theatre. He has won the Max Theatre Award and the National Theatre Award more than once. Many of his plays have been taken to the big screen.
