The Miller Woman of Arcos (La molinera de Arcos)

This dramedia is about the abuse of power, about the Church as an institution, the government, the military and the emancipation of women. During a wedding, a minstrel tells a legend and the characters from the wedding start turning into the characters of the legend. The tale told by the minstrel is about how a governor falls in love with the wife of a miller, and how he manages to seduce her.

 

RELEVANT FACTS: The Miller Woman of Arcos was released in 1947 at the Argentine Theatre in Buenos Aires. The musical version of the work, with stage direction of José Osuna, was released in 1980 in the Cultural Center of the Villa of Madrid.

Casona was one of the most important Spanish writers of the 20th century. He lived between Spain and Latin America, where his work had a great success in cinema and theatre, especially in Argentina, where several movies about his work were produced. He received the Premio Nacional de Literatura and the Premio de Teatro Lope de Vega, among others.
