The Queen’s Flight (El vuelo de la reina)

A romantic relationship that goes beyond obsession and dives into the depths of human morality.

A veteran journalist, Camargo, has an uncontrollable attraction towards a young writer. He is a powerful and influential director at the newspaper El Diario in Buenos Aires. The story alternates between two time periods that narrate apparently unrelated events, but that are completely intertwined. It begins with the image of Camargo spying on a woman through a telescope, as she strips naked in the apartment across the street from him. From there, we are taken to three years prior, when the protagonist meets Reina Remis, a young editor who has just arrived at the editorial office of his newspaper.

Time jumps reflecting Camargo’s increasingly obsessive passion for the young journalist, specialized in political news and exposes the farcical cover-up invented by the Argentinian president, who has retired to a monastery claiming he has received a visit from Christ and carries out his own death. Camargo´s obsession gets to the point of leaving his wife and family aside and going so far as to not attend his own daughter´s funeral.

Page by page we follow the course of Camargo’s disturbing relationship with Reina, a relationship in which chance and duplicity lead to a totally unexpected denouement.

What the critics have said:

“A novel full of ethical dilemmas, along with real, complex and captivating characters. With perfect prose and a gripping pace, the story is a hurricane. You will not be able to put it down and you won´t want it to end. The Queen´s Flight (El vuelo de la reina) is not just meant to be read, but savored.” Amazon

The author´s intention is to not only offer an “anti-heroic” figure but to also show a sick Argentina, one that is economically and morally bankrupt. Contact with political power brings forward the pessimism of society and of creepy characters behind The Rear Window.” El Cultural
