The Candy Operation: the biggest man hunt ever made in Madrid.
In 2014, the Judiciary Police Brigade of Madrid had to face an enormous case: capturing a monster who kidnapped girls between 5 and 11 years old in the daylight, sexually abused them, and freed them without leaving any trace. The case was known as the Candy Operation.
Antonio Ángel Ortiz, nicknamed “The pederast of Ciudad Lineal”, acted as a ghost, for he did not leave any trace of the crimes he committed. This was something which made it difficult for the police officers to track down the abuser.
However, it was the second victim, a 5-year-old girl, who helped the police when she detailed the physical appearance of the criminal, as well as the house where the rapes were committed. She helped them through the drawings she made, which have now become part of the Spanish investigation history.
In I Will Hunt the Monster for You (Cazaré al monstruo por ti), investigative journalist Manuel Marlasca narrates the whole story of how the police forces of Madrid managed to capture the pederast, through official police and judicial documents of the Candy Operation.
RELEVANT INFORMATION: The Candy Operation was a case that kept the police forces of Madrid alert for months in 2014 and 2015. Eight million telephone connections, 400.000 cars and dozens of security cameras were analyzed to persecute the abuser. The main obsession of the officers was to get to the pedophile’s location as soon as possible, and to avoid another traceless crime.
