Jorge Franco is a Colombian writer internationally recognized for novels that have become major literary and audiovisual successes. His works, translated into multiple languages and published worldwide, have established him as one of the most representative voices of contemporary Colombian fiction.

He was initially trained in filmmaking, studying Film Directing and Production at The London Film School (UK). He later expanded his literary education at the Literary Workshop of Medellín’s Biblioteca Pública Piloto, the Writers’ Workshop at Universidad Central, and studied Literature at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.

Franco has published short stories and articles in various magazines and was invited by Gabriel García Márquez to co-teach a workshop with him at the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He has also served as a tutor in the Master’s Program in Creative Writing at the National University of Colombia.

Many of his novels have reached number one bestseller status in Colombia, with several achieving significant international impact. His best-known work, Paraíso Travel, has been translated into a dozen languages and adapted for both film and television, becoming one of the highest-grossing films in Colombian cinema. Another major success, Rosario Tijeras, was also adapted for film and more recently as a television series. In total, the author has published more than fifteen works, including novels, short stories, and anthologies.

Throughout his career, Jorge Franco has received numerous literary honors, including the Dashiell Hammett Prize at Semana Negra de Gijón, the Alfaguara Novel Prize, First Prize in the Pedro Gómez Valderrama National Narrative Competition, and First Prize at the 14th National Novel Competition Ciudad de Pereira. He was also a finalist for the Colcultura National Fellowship.
