Alberto Chimal

Alberto Chimal is a Mexican writer who is considered one of the main figures of Ibero-American fantasy literature. He has devoted himself mainly to narrative and the teaching of creative writing, in which he is an outstanding lecturer and disseminator.

He has written novels, short stories, children’s literature, and graphic narrative, as well as mini-fictions, essays, theater and poetry. Chimal is the first Mexican to write a Batman story for DC Comics.

Since the 90s, Chimal has taught literary courses and workshops; among his students are several national and international award winners. He holds a master’s degree in Comparative Literature from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

 

RELEVANT INFORMATION

Two of his works were selected for the anthology The Big Book of Modern Fantasy, and Chimal is the only Mexican author to appear in the book.

He has also been awarded the Nezahualcóyoti National Short Story Award, the FILIJ Playwriting Award, the Benemérito of America Short Story Award, the Kalpa Award, the San Luis Potosí Fine Arts Short Story Award, the “Sizigias” Narrative Award, the State of Mexico Literature Award, the “Colima” Fine Arts Narrative Award and the Cuatrogatos Foundation Award on two occasions.

It was also selected for the White Ravens catalog of children’s and young adult literature and was recognized by the Venezuelan Book Bank in the category of books for young people.

His works have been translated into some twenty languages, including English, French, Italian, German, Hungarian, Chinese, Polish, Farsi, Hebrew, Mixe, Zapotec, Mixtec and Esperanto.
