Gonzalo Torrente Ballester is a key author in the contemporary Spanish literature. He graduated in History in the University of Santiago de Compostela and was a Professor of Language and Literature in the same university since 1940. He worked as a teacher his whole life, studying literature and the theatre critique. He lived in different Spanish cities and in the United States.

 

RELEVANT INFORMATION

Among the numerous awards he received, the Premio Nacional de Literatura (1981), the Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras (1982) and the Premio Miguel de Cervantes (1985) stand out.

He was a playwright, polemical essayist, sharp critic and prolific novelist. He made himself known for the TV adaptation of his trilogy The joys and the shadows. Before, his novel The saga / escape of J.B was hailed as one of the most refreshing narratives of the latefranchismo. He has been a member of the Real Academia Española since 1975.
