Alberto Chimal is a Mexican writer, regarded as one of the most distinctive voices in Ibero-American fantastical fiction.
His work spans short stories, novels, essays, and children’s and young adult literature, with a strong inclination toward the speculative and the unsettling. In addition to his literary work, Chimal is a workshop leader and an active cultural communicator in the media and on digital platforms.
The author of more than fifty books, some of which have been translated into other languages, he has received numerous awards, including the Nezahualcóyotl National Short Story Prize, the FILIJ Playwriting Prize, the Benemérito de América Short Story Prize, the Kalpa Prize, the San Luis Potosí Fine Arts Short Story Prize, the “Sizigias” Narrative Prize, the State of Mexico Literature Prize, the Colima Fine Arts Narrative Prize, and the Fundación Cuatrogatos Prize on two occasions.
“The universe of the Mexican writer Alberto Chimal occupies a no-man’s land, between the harshest and most violent reality and a remarkable ability to venture into the fantastical.” — El País
